With A Little Help From My Friends

The Beatles made it famous, but the sentiment has been a guiding principle in my life.

After my mastectomy, I came home with all these strange tubes coming out of my body. No one had warned me about them. I tried putting my drain bulbs into a bowl to shower, but it was awkward. A friend who was staying with me to help me out for the first few days got my sewing basket out and created a small apron garment to hold the drain bulbs securely. I used it in the shower and then got a fresh one when I dressed. It decreased the pulling and tugging of the tubes when I moved around and just made the whole experience a lot more comfortable.

Ten surgeries later, I knew that I needed to start a business to manufacture this garment for other post-surgical patients. It was a necessary comfort for the healing process. Hence, Necessary Comforts was born.

I'm now a decade cancer-free, but my mission to empower patients to heal more comfortably is stronger than ever. And I would not have gotten here without a little help from my friends.

XOXO
